New Dementia Identification enhanced service

You will have received, or very shortly will receive, communication from the NHS England Area Team about the attached new National Enhanced Service ( this is a NES, not a DES, although I have no doubt every Area team will have no choice but to commission it) )known as the “Dementia Identification Scheme”. This is a time-limited enhanced service, to run for six months, and clearly nobody needs to beEinstein to work out the motivation for the introduction of this at this time. NHs England have been told to do this, and to get it up and running at very short notice. There has beenNO negotiation with GPC about this.

The newNES is to run alongside the existing DES enhanced service and you will note that none of the payment attached to this scheme is for the process of providing clinical care to your patients, but is entirely given towards achieving intended outcomes- namely making additional new diagnoses of dementia. As always, practices will want to look very carefully at this before making a decision as to whether they wish to sign up.
