I’m sure that it will come as no surprise to anyone that NHS England are to recommission their pharmacy flu vaccination scheme this forthcoming season despite the shambles of the first year of the scheme this past winter and , of course, the local “ pilot” which took place the previous year. Details of the recommissioning are at this link:
I’m sure your practice will want to plan its forthcoming flu campaign in the light of the knowledge that pharmacies will once again be competing with your patients. It may well be that you would wish to ensure that you’re your vaccine supply orders are appropriate bearing in mind the experience of the last two winters and how you plan to run your campaign this year. Many practices I’m sure are planning to be more proactive and commence their patient info campaigns earlier in order to minimise disruption caused by the competing pharmacy scheme.
As always, if you have not already done so, it would be helpful if the LMC could receive feedback on any problems encountered during the 2015/16 season, and any consequences it caused for your own flu campaign and uptake. We would also of course wish to receive information in future about ongoing problems in the 2016/17 season.
