Violent Patient Removals

The key points, re-iterating advice that the LMC has recently issued are that:

1) a patient MUST be removed by primary care support services immediately on notification by the practice which may include by telephone call. A phone call must be confirmed in writing within seven days. This may be by any written means, though it would be helpful both to use the standard proforma and good medical practice to include the patient summary and I would therefore encourage all practices to do so although it is not mandatory.

2) there is no requirement to obtain a police crime, reference or log number, as stated on the form as this is not required under the regulations but again I would encourage all practices, if at all possible, to obtain a reference number for their own use as this might be helpful evidence if, for example, a subsequent complaint was based on failure to follow due process.
