In relation to the expectation to do home visits on all shielded patients if they need care, then we would point out that the GPC have raised concerns and highlighted that in many cases being seen in an appropriate clinical setting is safer than visiting someone at home. The guidance provides for suitable options and states home visits should be done “unless an alternative care setting is clinically indicated”. As we know this guidance is out of date since the change in restrictions enabling shielding patients to leave their home with appropriate social distancing.
