The BMA has today updated its guidance to GPs on responding to firearms applications. This is available at the following link:

The changes relate to guidance on record flagging and conscientious objection to involvement  and follow ongoing discussion between the BMA and the Home Office and receipt of further legal advice.

The BMA has also had a constructive meeting  with the Countryside Alliance and  it is confirmed that all stakeholders now accept the principle of doctors charging a reasonable fee for completing firearms medical reports.

The BMA is continuing to work with the Home Office in order to resolve all remaining issues; further information will be forwarded to practices as soon as available.
